Sic Bo

Sic Bo is a game of chance involving three dice that are rolled inside a wired cage known as a “shaker”. The game has been traced back to ancient China, but thanks to the global clientele of online casinos, it is more popular today than at any other point in history.

Bets are made by placing casino chips on a table layout in much the same way as craps and roulette players place bets. There are scores of different bet types that are available, so here we will restrict ourselves to talking about the most popular ones only, leaving you to discover the rest at your leisure at the casino of your choice. Whilst we provide example odds when describing bets here, you should check the odds available at the online casino you choose to play at, because odds do vary from casino to casino.

Small:

When you bet on Small you are saying that the total of the three dice will be in the range of 4 to 10 inclusive. It is important to note that this bet does not win if three of a kind occurs, so if the dice are 1-1-1, 2-2-2 or 3-3-3 the Small bet will lose. If you win you will be paid at odds of 1/1.

Big:

This is the opposite of the Small bet, and means that you expect the three dice to total 11 to 17, inclusive. The Big bet does not pay out on three of a kind, so if the dice are 4-4-4, 5-5-5 or 6-6-6 the Big bet will lose. Winning bets are paid at odds of 1/1.

Two Dice:

You can bet on any total of two dice that isn’t a double with the Two Dice bets that run across the middle of the table. There are fifteen possible combinations and the odds for a wining Two Dice bet are 5/1.

Doubles:

If you want to bet that two dice will show the same number, the Doubles bet is what you need. Pick 1-1, 2-2, 3-3, 4-4, 5-5 or 6-6 and if you win you will be paid 10/1.

1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6:

You can bet on the numbers 1 to 6 and be paid odds according to how many of the three dice land on that number. If one die shows you number, the odds are 1/1. If two dice show your number, the odds are 2/1. If three dice show your number, the odds are 11/1.

Any Triple:

You can bet that all three dice will show the same number without having to specify which number it will be. If a three of a kind occurs you are paid out at odds of 30/1.

Named Triples:

This is the hardest bet to win with on the Sic Bo table and it requires you to get the same number on all three dice. Choose 1-1-1, 2-2-2, 3-3-3, 4-4-4, 5-5-5 or 6-6-6 and if you win you will get odds of 179/1.

Total Value:

You can bet on the total of the three dice being 4 to 17 inclusive, and the odds paid for these bets vary according to the likelihood of that total being achieved, as you can see from the following table:

Playing Sic Bo

The game of Sic Bo should be approached like the game of roulette. If you want to stand the most chance of winning you should restrict yourself to betting on the even money shots, which are obviously the Small and Big bets. Betting on specific numbers (1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6) can also be worth considering, especially when you consider that you can bet more than one specific number at a time. Bets involving predictions more specific than this (for example, betting on a named double or triple) should be avoided unless you are the kind of player who is willing to lose regularly in return for a shot at a larger potential payout.
